At the park

I met Kathi Hannah a few weeks earlier at a nude workshop. Since we got along quite well together, we agreed on this relatively spontaneous shooting in Lucerne. Without lots of planning we met after work at the Dreilindenpark in Lucerne. The location gives quite a lot. There are large redwood trees, beautiful old buildings and a great view of the lake and mountains.
You could easily stay an entire day without getting bored shooting.

To snapshot or not to snapshot ?

Somehow my "best pictures", or lets say " the pictures that I like the most" are almost always the ones that were not planned. One could also call them snap shots.
I was thinking about this lately.
Does this make me a bad photographer? Or just a bad planner?
I feel that pictures that come to live out of real situations are somehow more alive than the posed ones. By the way these three shots were NOT posed ones... Viktoria was dancing and going with the flow of the music. So these are actual snapshots.

Would love to hear our opinion on this.
In English or in German or in French or in whatever language you like :-)

For me, a "snapshot" is just a picture of a subject, whatever that subject is. A "good picture" has something more, and doesn't let the subject matter itself dominate the picture.

I don't think the difference between a good picture and a snapshot is explicit planning. That can help make a good picture, but I also find that over-planned pictures can also have an artificial or unnatural look.

Being able to see an image when the light, the subject, the framing are good, and then being able to make the picture is a skill separate to planning. Being able to move to the right place for those things to be more likely to be good is also a skill.

Street photography, for example, is trying to make good pictures out of unplanned moments, not just snapshots.

Mir persönlich erscheint Bild 3 am besten komponiert, weil da das Licht- und Schattenspiel am besten funktioniert. Favorit 2 ist das mittlere Bild. Toll wie der gestreckte Arm mit dem Schatten an der Wand korrespondiert. Interessant fände ich Bilder von ihr, auf denen man sie spüren kann.

Ich kann aus meiner Erfahrung in soweit zustimmen, dass es oft die Bilder sind, die einfach so entstehen, die letztendlich bei mir hängen bleiben. Aber ich muss dazu sagen, dass ich eigentlich immer so fotografiere, dass die Bilder beim fotografieren erst entstehen. Ich gehe in der Regel nur mit einem sehr diffusen Plan in ein Shooting, meist lasse ich mich von der Kombination aus Modell, Location, Stimmung und Licht leiten. Was am Ende entsteht weiß ich am Anfang nie. Ich bin also kein guter Planer, aber ich glaube, dass ich es hin und wieder schaffe aus den Gegebenheiten etwas vorzeigbares entstehen zu lassen.
